While cleaning around the engine area of '97 252 I came across a blunt end wire that was laying under the engine. I finally got my hands on it and traced it to the back. It is attached under a nut or bolt that is on the transome bracket that supports the out drive.
I assume this has something to do with ground and static charges. Am I right or wrong? Either way, what is it for and where should it go?
Thanks!

Sounds like it is a bonding wire for the Mercathode corrosion protection system. All that stuff needs to be kept hooked up particulary if you boat in salt water or leave the boat in the water. The unbonded parts will corrode like crazy otherwise.

Looking up the Mercathod system, I don't see many bonding wires. It could be something else, I just can't think of it right off hand. Let us know what you find out.
