With poker run season upon us, I thought it would be very important to point out a MAJOR exclusion that is found in the majority of performance boat insurance policies and marine insurance policies in general.
The majority of marine insurance policies exclude racing and/or speed/timed contests. As a result this means that shootouts are excluded from coverage. If you choose to participate in a shoot-out, then there would be no coverage for physical damage to your boat or liability coverage for you.
Some carriers, allow you to pay a little extra premium to get the shoot-out covered by your policy. The coverage would just be added by endorsement. If you are with a carrier that doesn't offer the ability to endorse a speed/timed contest such as a shoot-out then Wake Zone does offer a standalone event policy that you can purchase for that specific shoot out.
