Default general electrical question...

I havent got my motor yet, so all I am dealing with is the merc plug on the wiring from the dash to the engine compartment. What I want to do is send power and ground from a battery foreward so I can see what works (horn, lights, stereo etc). I can make jumpers from the battery to the plug to do this. I can do basic car wiring, but I figured I would ask before I fried something..

So do I jump positive to the red and red/purple stripe wires and ground to black to fire off the electrical system??

yes you can,,just make sure the red wire is fused,,,,all you will need to hook up is the power wire that went to the starter and the ground..
