I just did my twins what a pita! I would get them perfect, could push the bar in with one finger, pull it out just as easy. Then roll the motors 180, and bar would only go in halfway. So i split the difference and called it good.

Apparently if your boat sits alot, the rubber in the coupler can get a little out of round. I was told by several mechanics in town that it common, and as long as the bar goes in and out without having to put effort into it, then the boat is lightyears ahead of how it came from the factory!

Did you get the fiber washer and spring on the rear correctly?
If you don't it will not line up.

The gimbal bearing is spherical in design and need to be aligned to the engine before checking alignment or you will never get it right. Did you do that?

+1 been there done that. It is easy to have a washer slip out of position when installing an engine. I try to install the bolt with the engine mount above the transom mount an inch or so. That way I can feel to see the washers are in the correct place, then just set it in place. Randy
