Engine outdrive alignment ????

So I'm putting the engine back in an for some reason I just can't get the alignment perfect ,the motor is 454 out drive is bravo the only thing that has changed is I will no longer use the y pipe for exhaust it's been removed ,and the only other thing that's changed is a new coupler went on is possible I ordered the wrong one I really doubt it ??? , the rear mounts are fixed and do not require adjustment correct ?? Anyway ....any ideas would be great

I just did my twins what a pita! I would get them perfect, could push the bar in with one finger, pull it out just as easy. Then roll the motors 180, and bar would only go in halfway. So i split the difference and called it good.
Apparently if your boat sits alot, the rubber in the coupler can get a little out of round. I was told by several mechanics in town that it common, and as long as the bar goes in and out without having to put effort into it, then the boat is lightyears ahead of how it came from the factory!

+1 been there done that. It is easy to have a washer slip out of position when installing an engine. I try to install the bolt with the engine mount above the transom mount an inch or so. That way I can feel to see the washers are in the correct place, then just set it in place. Randy
