The boats buffed with heavy compound, start on the medium tomorrow, its cleaning up nice. The motor is here, though it has a red bellhousing thats definitly not merc, Im thinking volvo. Also no coupler. Luckily I have a merc bellhousing and coupler on the shelf. Motor aslo came with the freeze plugs removed, cant really figure that one out. Its really clean though, no corrosion, no gunk and no repainting. Its getting dropped in next thursday and hope to have it lit off by next weekend.
one setback, on closer examination, the front bolsters have a bad case of rotten wood shells though the covers are ok. So I am going to try and surgically deconstruct them, build new shells and stick them back together.
From what I have figured out the motor has been sitting for a few years, 454 lx mpi. Anything to do/look out for before/during first firing??
It had a bad case of bottom funk that laughed at the pressure washer/scrub brush. Using Goof Off rust stain remover and its cleaning up nice and easy. Muck better than I rhought it would.
I hope to be running with the bugs worked out by june 1st.
Hopefully this is the easy project, as soon as Im done with this its on to the 26 bertram. Damn alcohol fuel at up the fiberglass tank so some major surgery is in the works.
