I have a 23 baja outlaw with a 6.2mx mpi I took it to a local mercrusier service center. Boat ran fine last year just took it in to have sea water impeller changed and that's it. The pulled and swapped the impeller called me and said it was 5+ hours to do the job and that my boat was overheating and needed more work. Stopped up after work service was gone, sales showed me the used impeller with a chunk missing off a vane. Service didn't back flush or track chunk down before reassembly! I think they r scamming me or stupid, does anyone know the book hours mercrusier has for impeller job? You do have to unbolt the cool fuel system and serpentine belt to pull whole pump assembly to rebuild. I think I could of did it in 5 hours not knowing what I'm doing

If all they did was change the impeller they are full of b.s. or dummies. I changed my first impeller a couple weeks ago and it took a little over an hour.... I'm not sure what the book hours are when to change the impeller, but I've always heard of it as a 'yearly' thing.

There has to be a few more places around you that you can call and get an estimate from. Also ask questions like does that include flushing if impeller is found to be torn up etc.
Also did you get a quote from the place it is at now before they started the job ???
