Trying to convert twin engine merc power assist hyd steering to full hydraulic. I want to save money and use the current merc rams and I don't want to put anymore holes in the transom. Does anyone make a conversion kit?

Mayfair builds an inside full hydraulic helm kit that should be able to use the rams that are already there. It comes with everything to replace the helm, cable, & p/s actuator. Look at CP Performance.com. About 1200.00. Randy

Those kits look good for a single but get pretty pricey for a twin boat.

I've got a guy looking to retrofit full hyd on an older 311 Formula w twin 420/TRS. The steering on it is pretty worn and sloppy. Looks like most of it is in the cabling as the tiller arms and gimbles are fresh & tight. Any better internal options out there?

It was explained to me for the one I bought that a twin ram set up doesn't matter weather it is a single or twin engine it has to do with the size of the helm unit to move enough fluid for two rams as opposed to a single ram set up. I am assuming the OP already has the external gear already installed by how he wrote the thread. 1200.00 was for everything on the inside of the transom if he needs external hardware it will more than double that price. It sounds to me that the OP wants to keep the existing Merc ram on the inner transom plate and make it full hydraulic. Is that the case?
If so, then the answer is no, at least as far as I know. If you want full hydraulic, you need to add either one or two rams on the outside of the transom, in addition to the helm, hoses, etc.

No he has the old Mercury external hydraulic steering. With an inside cable helm and wants to convert it to full hydraulic

just did the whole shebang . 3300 at imco , mine had dual powersteering pumps so a little extra on some added parts . no steering wheel

Was that using the Mercury steering rams?
