Have a 2002 353 Formula, twin 500efis. End of last season noticed dirty water stains on the valve cover, port motor, inside header. Boat has Corsa quick quiet as well. Any thoughts? Will be cranking the motor on a hose in next day or so to investigate. Fact that it was dirty water leads me to believe it was picked up in the slip during low water at the end of last season. All kidding aside, I thought it was more of a rusty color. Either the header is leaking, or the crossover hose, u shaped that connects the header and tailpipe. Mike, post a couple of pictures and see what anyone else has to offer!

You have the CMI E Tops, I assume, and they are not noted to be leakers. However they can at the flange between the header and the tail pipe. Check the clamp there, make sure it's tight and seated right.. Also if you have the rope seal style, the seal can fail as well. My E tops were of that style and would need a snug up once in a while, replaced the seals once I believe. Actually if you need the seals I might have some in the box of boat junk.

Pete, not to dispute you, but if they were leaking at the tailpipe seam it would be exhaust only. The by pass hose carries the water further down the tailpipe. If it were water, he would have many other issues such as reversion or a cracked flange leaking water, hence the rusty color. He has the same seal as I do, the flat gasket style, not the rope.

OK, found the leak, it is at the junction where the down pipe for the Corsa goes into the rubber hose. I had to get it under load to see it leak. two hose clamps and what appears to be some kind of sealing compound, brown in color. What is the sealant and what's the smartest way to fix it? Boat is still on the trailer.

If in the street on the trailer is good.

Far as the leak ............. try to tighten the hose clamps, if shot replace them, that joint should be the stainless pipe to the rubber hose, what the brown chit is would be beyond me. You might have to adjust the rubber hose if both clamps do not get a good bite to get it to seal up.

If all else fails, Duct tape is a wonderful product, it's capabilities have yet to be totally understood by humankind. Wrap the F'n thing.

the HOA must be havin a fit, checking to see if you have the right curtians in your windows and filling out the violations...

Thanks Pete, just didn't know if they used something like form a gasket between the rubber and pipe. Rip, the beauty is I can dump in the Seneca literally less than a minute from the house. I wasnt seeing the leak hooked up to the hose at the house. As a community resident, you pay $40 for a key and the launch is brand new, all Trex decked, huge parking lot to swing the rig. From 3 rivers you can head to Oswego, Oneida, Onondaga, or Cross Lake. My buddy has an 18 foot open bow that we river cruise with. That plus jet skis, kayaks and paddle boards it's easy to get on the water after work.....at least until dusk when the bugs come out.

a small hot rod would be ideal with that access to those small bodies.

can you keep the boat at your house?

There's a locked storage area with cameras for storage in the community. I use it about 6 weeks a year between early season and ende of season prior to dry storage.
