The 10th annual Thunder on the Golf to be BIGGER and BETTER THAN EVER!!! An AWESOME weekend planned for the racers, teams and fans!
First exciting news: Race Village will be at The Wharf in Orange Beach! I know it’s been years since some of you have visited the Wharf, but it is complete now and it is must-see resort with some of the South’s finest restaurants, one-of-a-kind shops, a world-class Marina, 10,000 seat Amphitheater and the Complete Angler Boat Bar where you can sit and watch the most gorgeous sunsets on the Gulf Coast! This is the location of the Awards Ceremony on Sunday evening. A Welcome Party is scheduled on Thursday evening at the world famous Flora-Bama Roadhouse, newly refurbished and upgraded, but still has that old Flora-Bama vibe. They even have a Flora-Bama Yacht Club with a famous Executive Chef. After everyone rolls in and gets set up in Race Village, Gary Nichols will host the Meet the Race Team Party at Live Bait II on Friday evening. There will be something for everyone in Race Village on Saturday. Live entertainment beginning at noon featuring local favorites Top Hat & Jackie and a 50’s-60’s acapella doo-wop group call BLEND. . . A Miss Thunder on the Gulf Bikini Contest is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The Thunder on the Gulf Block Party will begin at 6pm featuring Hotwire Band, a party and dance band made up of former members of the legendary Tip Tops. With multiple vocalists, a kickin’ rhythm section and the awesome Hotwire Horns, guarantee a packed dance floor all night long! An After party is being planned at the Daiquiri Bar with more live entertainment.
You all know what you’re doing Sunday! The races will be at 1pm and 3pm. Race Central will be at the Island House Hotel where Barbara Walters is the Hostess with the Mostess! She is truly a southern lady that knows how to make everyone fee special! The VIP Viewing Tent will sit right outside her hotel on the beach. VIP tickets are $75. The Platinum
VIP Viewing will be in the penthouse at Turquoise Place. It will be catered by Cobalt and Live Bait. And as stated earlier, the Awards ceremony will be at Bob Baumhower’s (one of the former Miami Dolphin Killer Bee’s) Complete Angler Boat Bar.
A highlight of our stay at The Wharf will feature the 100 Days of Summer Spectra Light Show. The Wharf will be all the colors of the rainbow during a nightly spectacular light and sound show. There will also be a Family fun Zone with rides and games and a helicopter on site the can take you up to see the breathtaking views of our gorgeous Gulf Coast!
AND THAT’S NOT ALL!!! The Thunder on the Gulf office and Hospitality Room right across from Race Village! Come by, visit with our awesome volunteers and fans, buy a few T-shirts and relax with a cool one! This is where your race team meetings will be held.
A discount at the Brett Robinson Vacation Rentals is offering 15% discount at all buildings except the hotels. Discount is for May 30th to June 2nd. The code to use is RACE when making reservations. Refer to the Super Boat International for phone numbers.
