Default Weighing mekp for gel question

Hello all. I went to china freight and bought the small digital scale to weigh my mekp.

Probably a dumb question but here goes:

Do I just weigh the raw gel and then do some quick math to find the weight of the mekp?

Is 2% mekp what I want?

Thanks guys.

I use 1-2% but measure it in fluid ounces. 100 ounces resin or gel use 1 -2 ounces mekp

yep, 1% is pretty standard and you should stick as close to that number as possible. I weigh everything in grams, seems the best scale for pint/quart/partial quantities. I start by setting the cup on the scale and zeroing it out (tear/print i think its sometimes called) then dump in however much resin you think you will need. Pretty simple decimal point shuffle after that. Say if you have 547 grams of resin (bout a pint) you will need 5.5 grams of MEK, you just move the decimal two places to the left and round off. Now zero out the scale again and add the appropriate amount. Its funny people ask me how much mek to add to some amount of resin and i have to say i have no idea lol, as long as i have done this i do not know any quantity based ratios. I weigh everything strictly . . . . and yes one percent is all you need for resin . . . . not one percent plus a little extra for good measure . . . . two percent for gelcoat.
