It depends on the cleat, and it's backing plate. I probably would not trust a pin cleat for long term mooring; or rough water.

I just bought some at CP performance, haven't really seen them for sale anywhere else. They had two sizes. I don't think you can just buy the pins. I wouldn't try to use them as a cleat though. The added stress can't be distributed far enough out away from the pin hole like a cleat. Might tear it out of the boat unless you can make some sort of special backing plate for it.

Thanks all...I realize you can't use them for stress related situations but for light maneuvering around docks or the launch you need something for. 47 Outerlimits...its just too damn long

Ive tried them. They wont hold, the pins break and get tore out, i have the half inch pins, going to add cleats

They are good for calm water docking, like you're saying. I wouldn't trust them for rough water. Do yourself a favor and get the dual pin. You can tie the rope and fender to the same pin. Made my life a lot easier when I was docking.

Try one of these if all you are looking for is the ability to manage the boat for a short period of time.
