I finally have my 558hp. Blown 383 small blocks broken in and running nicely. The old setup "350 magnum mercs with Quicksilver 22 choppers worked well and ran 62mph at 5300. The new engines need a bit more prop. I am running Bravo 28s now but Im not sure that is the best prop for this rather heavy convential Vee hull '87 Donzi Z29. If I try to lighten the bow with trim the boat porpouses. It planes quickly and cruises at 40 mph at only 2200rpm., 60mph. at about half throttle. At that point it just feels heavy the bow is low. I have the horsepower to overcome that ,but my fuel appitite must be pretty bad at that point. Would 3 blade props work better. I have heard that non stepped hulls need the bow lift they give, and modern stepped hulls respond better to more stern lift from the 4 blade bravo style props.

On my conventional V bottom the mirage plus (27p) didn't work for me and didn't carry the bow, I ended up switching the props (bravo 26p) to rotate inwards and had Frank & Jimmies prop add a larger diffuser ring and more cup to the blades. I kind of made my bravos into a maximus style prop but with 4 blades. Each boat is different and you will need to do some experimenting to see what your boat needs. It took me a while to figure out what I needed was more bow lift and the stock bravos didn't have enough grip to hold the bow up with the extra cup and bigger diffuser they do now. Can you get past the porpoise at higher speeds? I tried about 8 sets of props before I figured out what the boat needed, 24p maximus, 24, 26, 28 bravo, 26p & 28p P5x, labbed 30p bravo, labbed 29p P5, 27p Mirage plus.

My drives are both standard rotation. Something that will change when I upgrade to better drives."when mine explode". How much effect do you think rotation has on speed? It sure is bad to back up. With the wheel straight ahead and the boat idleing in reverse the boat will rotate 30 deg. in a boat length. Docking is fun for others to watch if you don't know a few tricks to make it work. I borrowed a pair of Bravo 26s last summer and took the boat up to 90mph. the fastest it's been run so far.It felt good and seemed to have plenty left .I had some engine alarm problems to look into and diden't get a chance for further testing before I had to give them back. I was in the salt water and diden't seem to have the isues that I am having now in the fresh water wiet the Bravo 28s.
