Default Kenwood Wired Remote Installation

I just purchased a new Radio, Kenwood KMR-355U, and wired remote KCA-RC35MR. I have several questions that I would like to get some expert recommendations on.

1. I have to drill a 3/4" hole at the rear of my boat on the swim platform. What is the recommended process for doing this without causing excess damage to the fiberglass?
2. I would like to understand how to wire the remote. I get the basics, but my goal is to have the remote turn on and off with the headunit (remote doesn't have a on/off switch). I was told by Kenwood Support that the Power Control wire isn't the answer as I thought it might be.
3. Any other helpful information would be much appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

I went through this process over the past weekend and it turned out b-e-a-utiful. For anyone else considering a wired remote on the swim deck, here is what I found to work the best:

1. Tape up the fiberglass area where you will be drilling the hole for the remote. The tape helps prevent splitting in the fiberglass. Once that is done, get a sharp appropriate sized spade bit. Put the drill in reverse and scribe the area where the remote will be going. Once scribed, put the drill in forward and finish the hole. Take your time drilling. I caulked the inside of the hole incase water finds its way in so you have a waterproof barrier between it and the fiberglass/wood interior (some boats have wood inbetween the fiberglass interior/exterior).
2. The remote installation was close to my battery , so I wired the remote power (red) & ground (black) directly to the battery. Then I ran wire up the side of my boat to the CD headunit to connect the remote wire.
A. According to my remote wiring instructions, it has an illumination wire (orange) which i was told to connect to the red power wire. I didn't end up doing this as the remote would be illuminated all the time (wasting precious battery). Instead, I wired the illumination wire (orange) to the power control wire (blue/white) which will then only illuminate the remote when the headunit is on.

Overall, a very successful installation.
