I'm redoing the dash on the 86' Formula 242 and I'm contemplating putting in a blank switch for a future windshield wiper. Anybody else that has it on their boat, do you use the wiper?

I keep a full face helmet with a rainx coating on the visor in the cabin for those days I have to run in the rain

A good coat of wax (or rain X) and speeds around 40 will do the trick. I have never had a problem seeing through my windshield (no wiper) and I have been in T-Storms with driving rain so hard I couldn't see the front of my boat (and my boat is only 26').....

I had a wiper. The rain X is honestly better. The marine wipers usually suck unless u spend the $$$$ on a good one but than it is a huge eye sore IMO.

In my humble opinion, a wiper is one of the biggest PITA to install options - with the smallest payback - in all of boating. I've seen many of them and installed a few. Most of them fail to do even a poor job of wiping and end up simply rotting away sitting on the windshield. There, did I get my true feelings out?
