Thinking of going back to PP. Know of one with 525's but seeing what else can be bought. Prefer bigger power...

Don't get me wrong, my 42 was an awesome boat, but unless you are out doing poker runs all summer there really is no way to justify the extra cost for the extra 20mph. Here's the breakdown of one summer:
Rack: $6k
Insurance: $7400 (26 years old)
Fuel: $11k
= $26k give or take with no maintenance issues.
Talked to the guy who bought my boat over the winter and he put about 20 hours on the boat, ran flawless, then one engine went kaboom, blown head gasket burned a hole in a couple pistons. Checked the other engine and that head gasket was leaking too. $60k later he is back up and running. I feel like the verge of a docile, reliable engine, 200+ hours is right at around 1000hp, once you go over that you are asking for trouble.

Also not ruling out some other "hot rods" out there. The Superboats and Phantoms are cool as well, but I think the 33 PP is a more well-rounded boat.
Even though I don't have one, I enjoy reading the threads on the PP's and keeping up with them. I appreciate everyone letting me join in the banter.

Yeah, maybe if you're comparing someone w/ 600 hp hanging off the back to someone w/ 2000 hp under a hatch. Otherwise w/ "mild power" I don't know who's losing their boating time to engine work all the time...
