Sooo...
I'm here in coastal NC, trying to get the house of my dreams built, living in a rental house while the missus is back home in PA trying to sell the old homestead. After cooking for myself (just like the ole bachelor days) all week, I decide to hit to local waterfront establishment for dinner and a cocktail. The weather is pretty hairy, with squalls moving through, and at some point a group of boaters comes through the door, clearly shaken and weather-beaten. I pay casual interest to their story, hoping to gain a bit of local knowledge, and what transpires is this:
Haggard boater: "Man! it's really hairy out there. That was scary."
Seated buddy: Oh yeah? What happened?
Haggard boater: We were trying to make the harbor, and when we turned into the wind and seas, the boat came to an absolute stop!"
(At this point, I'm thinking: "Man! if they stuffed it, that's a scary deal...")
Seated buddy: "Wow! What kind of speed were you making at the turn?" (At this point my Suspicion Meter goes to full alert. This is not powerboat terminology.)
Haggard boater: "Geez. Whaddayathink guys? Had to be at least 6 knots."
Then I remembered: "I'm in Oriental, NC, The Salbote Kapital of NC"... My boat idles that fast. On one engine...
At this point, I resumed watching sports bloopers on the bar TV. Far more exciting...
I'm seriously considering taking this pansy out and demonstrating chine-walk to him at something around 85 mph. I'll make him clean his own poop off of the seat, though...

Dont say you werent warned, it's their town. My uncle lives in Oriental, he is the most militant sailor you'll ever meet, he works at one of the yards down there. Are you building on high ground or on stilts? He has been flooded out twice in the last 10 years, pretty disheartening when your in your 70's.
Good luck with your new life, I would like to get down there this fall and explore around.
