Default Rinda Merc scan tool or Mefi scan?

I want a scan tool for my Mefi 4b engines and would like some real world feedback from you guys...

I will just be using it to scan occasional codes when they come up on my engines, and then clear the codes. So my question is will the cheaper Mefi scan work just fine or should I really spend the extra $200, almost, for the Rinda tool?

So you have a top gun and you are wondering whether to spend the extra 200 .How much gas do you burn in a weekend ...I'd get the Diacom because it can be upgraded for future boats and will give you more info ....JMO

I have the mefi scan and it quickly made its way into the garbage. Wouldn't stay connected on 3 different comps and 2 different engines.

So just because I have a Top Gun that means I should waste money? The Diacom is even more than the Merc scan tool. I just want something to scan codes if/when something happens. I just can't see the benefit or advantage for an average user...sure for a pro tech, but just to pull fault codes and clear them, seems that's overkill...

Did you end up replacing it with the Rinda Merc scan tool? Or something else?

Beat me to it i have no idea why your make of boat was brought into it .no sense in wasting $$ if the cheaper one works as well and does the job YOU need it to do ..
seems like in this case you may need to buy better , i have the Rinda and got it as soon as i got a boat with 496ho Now i allways feel ready for them dam beeps i paid about $ 400 for it and very happy with it .

Yeah I didnt understand how the make of boat I had factored into this either...

I know the Rinda works and works well, I've used it before. It just seems very basic to me. I mean I like that its self contained, don't need a laptop, but it just seems basic...seems like the mefi scan does more. Now if it "says" it does more and truly doesn't work, well then the answer is clear and easy.

I was just hoping to get "real world" feedback, which I am! I'd still like to hear from some more people who are using mefi scan though...

The make of boat you have doesn't have as much to do with it as the amount of fuel your boat burns ...What is 200 to get something better ..I use Diacom with a laptop. . To me it's like trying to save 100 on a set of roller rockers ...Buy the good stuff .You won't be sorry .A lot of people will spend 200 on dinner but still want to buy cheaper parts for their boat ...bash away...it is my opinion
