Default 1988 Baja Sport 226 Newbie questions and curiosities!

Picked up my first boat, an unmolested, 3 owner, 88 sport 226 with the 7.4/bravo 1 combo.. I'm a diesel/auto mechanic by trade, so i know my way around a wrench and electrical, but the boat has a few issues and the internet has been less than informative. Specifically, the bilge doesnt work on auto or manual. Now i havent spent much time on diag or even looking around due to the rainy weather the northeast has had, but i know when the sun returns i wont want to spend anymore time repairing it than i have to. so my question(s) is this,
- where is the fuse block located?
- on the dash above the switches are what appear to be clear removable rubber things (is this where my fuses are located?)
- is there any wiring diagram available for this thing?

like i said, im learning as i go and have no problem acknowledging my lack of knowledge (we were all here at one point!) any advice to point me in the right direction would be most appreciated!

Fuses for the bilge would be back by the battery I think. There may be little breakers in the dash, but I don;t think there are any fuses there. Does the pump even work?

Good luck! If you've ever worked on a motor coach or bus you'll see where you're headed with info on a boat! Diagrams are almost non existent. But typically the bilge pump is wired from the battery with an inline fuse and the switch on the dash. There may or may not be a breaker up there. I can look at my buddies 88 240 sport tomorrow.

I know on my '90 250 the bilge pump was pretty well locked up when i got the boat 4 years ago. IMO i would just replace the pump because it can save your boat from sinking, i would also add a second one, again for the same reason.

i run two Rule pumps model 27s which pump 1100GPH each, they are automatic and turn on every 3 minutes or so to check for water. the nice thing is that you can hear them come on when the boat is not running so you know they are functional unlike float type pumps. those pumps can be had for under $60 each if you do a little searching on the web

Thanks for the input guys! A little update though, I was out in the water over the weekend and was approached by a guy in a jet-ski and come to find out was the original owner of the boat and had ALL THE ORIGINAL PAPERWORK!!!! The Baja owners manual looks brand new, I don't think it was ever opened.. It has a usable wiring diagram in it as well, better than nothing!! I still haven't had a chance to look into the bilge issue, but I'm thinking Friday I'll have some time to crawl around with my test light.. My switch has auto or manual mode, does this mean I have a seperate float under the motor or is it built into the pump itself? So pumped to get all the original manuals for this thing.. And the guy used to sell baja's back in the 90's, said I could contact him with any questions I might have as well.. The power boating community seems to be loaded with standup people, glad to be a part of it too! Cheers!

Full Whack maybe I can help you a little bit to save you some reading. I just picked a 1990 Baja 226 DSR which similar to your boat. The "button" with the clear plastic over it on the dash above the switches are push to reset circuit breakers for the switch below it.

Your bilge pump has a float (unless its been changed) so when you have the switch in auto it will come on automatically when the float gets high enough. Manual is self explanatory.
