timing question.....

I have 454's rebuilt with the weiland blowers I think 177's engines orignally were suppose to run at 34 degrees full advance
engine builder set them at 30 (he doesn't want it to detonate and deal with warranty lol...) any opions if I run it to 34? I am running
8.4 to 1 comp with 5 lbs boost. stock crank & rods. I am looking for more top speed... heavy formula 336sr1 bravo xr drives
with 26 pitch 4 blade merc prop...74mph on gps 5200 wot

Don't do it, the gains are not worth it, I would not run more then 28-30 total.... the power gains from a few degrees are not gonna be much, but melting a piston will cost ya, blowers and lots of timing not a good idea...

true... But higher timing will detonate faster then lower.... Lower timing will also bring egt down a little supposedly... But yes too little timing will blow chit up too but I say a little low is way better then a little high!!!
