Ok got a problem that has me stumped. Getting water in my boat, and I have no idea where from. Just had the boat off the trailer and checked the bottom for any holes. Replaced the bellows, ran motor on muffs (no leaks), took the seal that is around the boat between top bottom off and caulked it. I can see water trickling in from the steering arm. Any ideas????

Well I have came to the conclusion after backing the boat into the water a hundred times, and 2 tubes of silicone later that it is the gimbal ring, swivel pin, seal, tiller arm(pick one or all). I have seen jrmarine makes what looks like a kit to do this repair. Lot of people swear by it. My question now is do I go with the kit or pull the motor. I need this problem fixed yesterday. Pulling the motor would be the best move but well it would just plain suck. Anyone have estimated times on both ways.

Why would you pull the motor for a Transom problem?!?
Pull your drive and/or gimbal housing and fix it.
15 minutes to pull the outdrive, ok maybe 20.
another hour to pull the others off, but you will need to get on ebay and buy some tools, like a hinge pin tool to get it apart. Someone on here makes and sells them and gives OSO members a 10 percent discount. Just do a search on tools and it will pull up.

I had a similar leak last summer on my 97 Outlaw 24. I could see water pooling/trickling on top of the y-pipe portion of the Quick and Quiet where it goes through the transome assembly. Last winter, my mechanic pulled the motor, outdrive, and transome assembly. It turned out to be the tiller arm seal. Parts bill almost hurt more than the labor. It's been leak free this summer!!!

Is this the procedure where you cut out an access, replace the upper bushing, and put a cover plate back on?
My buddy and I just did his 272.
Great kit, the video walks you through step by step.
I wouldn't pull the motor, this was a straight forward repair, though it takes a little time.

Did this last year on my 272 when I had to remove my gimbal ring. Didn't use their kit, but copied the intent.... lol. Made up a nice cover plate from .040 Stainless Steel.
It's the mod Merc shoulda had on there in the first place, works well.
