Default Small outboard question.

Any one knows how to remove a lower unit from a older, Gamefisher 5 hp outboard? I need to check the impeller and may be replace. I got the 2 bolts removed, the lower unit is free and moving, down about 1/4". Seems that the driveshaft is stuck, or won't come any lower and I don't want to force it. I know the shaft will come out with the lower unit, but is there something holding it in place?
Thx
P

There is a shift lever on the side. It goes up and down, neutral and in gear. Disconnecting would make sense, but how? It's got to be on the top somewhere, there is no way to get to anything from the bottom.

Thanks. The picture is similar, but not the same. Mine has no bolt on the shift lever, so I have no clue how to get the unit removed, or disconnect the shift rod. I might have to remove the head. Ggrrrrr..
