12V are for people who can do maths, 24V are for the 90% of the rest of the world..

What you want for cores '6BT-370B': 5.9, 12v, mechanical.

Goldcoast (among others, has containers full of maranised 6BT engines.) They are good stuff and can be boosted up pretty easily.

Check out posts # 137 & 200 on the Sportboat Diesel Engine thread.

Truck and marine engines are the same, both even have freshwater cooling, the internals have differences because of power outputs NOT because one is marine and the other isn't.

Bob, why would you want the 2 valve heads?

Ratman, you want to do things cheap, that's your whole thing with all your questions - I don't think you will find what you want? If it existed for cheap money there would many other people doing what you want to. I think you will find at the end of the day you can have 3 pairs of equal Hp gas enegines for what you will spend on the diesels and then do you have any real advantage?

Fewer parts, easier to boost a bit.

I know what he is wanting to do, and I suggested he go to goldcoast, who have containers of Cummins re-man 6B & 6C ready to ship.

They are cheap, widely available, with cheap overhaul kits on the shelf.
They are good engines to boost, b/c they are hell-for-stout and have lots of aftermarket goodies available from the tractor pullers.

If Goldcoast has C's get those, your getting Arneson with chain/gear boxes on them so mount side by side and use the chain/gear box to offset toward the center. You need very little to get to 500-550 hp with those and an Apache 41 with 500hp to the water will run endless hours at 65mph - what more does he need?

Bob - DT 466's are not easy engines to get Hp out of, the heads are terriable. If you are looking at tractor pullers many of them make the heads out of solid billet similar to a Top Fuel car but those are not what he needs. I was involved with making heads back in 1987 for DT's.

By the time for any of these engines hot rod B's or DT or anything else he gets all the non-Cummins parts and special this and that how will he ever get parts or service or advice when things break, might as well have gas despite any objections.

I was not paying as close attention to his needs as I should.
We agree.

I have been looking very closely at the dt366 and IH/DD-A e40 8.7 to make into race engines (with a crate full of spares and falloffs alongside).
