Default mercruiser 4.3 thermostat location Question

Hi everyone, I had to remove my thermostat last year in the fal to winterize it. It was so rusted in there it got bent up which i wasn't concerned about because I was going to get a new one in the spring anyways. However when i went to put it in this year I cant remember if it went directly onto the block(like on a car) or if it when inside the metal thermostat housing? I have it on the block directly now but it never gets up to temp its always runs at about 100f or less.

Does anyone have any ideas? Does thermostat go directly on the block or in the housing? Thanks

I unfortunately already looked at those digrams but they dont show me in great detail. I was hoping someone had first hand experience. Im assuming it goes in the housing but if I remember i couldnt get the thermostat to fit in there. Also according to that diagram it looks like the thermostat has to go in first then the sleve? Im not sure if thethermostat will fit inside the sleve? Thanks again

It doesn't fit inside the sleeve. The sleeve is a spacer that goes on top of the stat. The pic is pretty clear.....

O-ring 1st, then t-stat, then the plastic sleeve. The sleeve has a notch to orientate it the correct direction

Gasket then cover

I didn't think i needed to remove the sleeve, that's why there was confusion. Thanks for clearing everything up. I installed everything today and all is good. Thanks!!
