Found a deal on one and my 38 scarab avs is a tank with stock 502 efi mags. Would like some info quickly if anyone can help. may pull trigger tomorrow

i ran a pair of 572s they made 640 a side in my mistress that was also a tank. i took charlie mcarthy out for a ride, he drove the hell out of that thing and taught me how to slide it around in the corners, he was impressed with the engines... that say a LOT. rm

thank for the info. just bought one on the phone just now or you could say i stole for the price i paid. i built up some bulldog 540 made over 600 in my cig bullet and mid range throttle was impressive. My 502 mag mpi just have no guts for a boat that weighs 10200 dry even being in an avs step hull, its like having electric motors.

mine should have made more hp, i had em dyno'ed by randy at cobra, he said he thought the intakes weren't big enough for my combination. i bought the pair of mine from tommy at chief for 8k for the pair, carb to pan in pieces. there was a mis matched connecting rod in one eng but they were balanced out i resized em and ran arp hardware through out, i turned them 6800 with a hyrdaulic roller valve train... you will like em, that extra 1/4 in of stroke you will definitely notice over your 540's...rm

I have a pair of them in the Power Play. They make good power and are pretty conservative. I had a water hose bust and ran one pretty hot two weeks ago. Just to be safe and out of curiosity as to what parts manufacturers they actually use. I went ahead and pulled it down and freshened it up. They really are nice pieces, bowtie block of course, all 4 bolt billet caps, Callies stealth crankshaft, Manley rods, all arp bolts, and SRP gas ported pistons. From GM they are a nice piece.

You should check the valve stem to guide clearances. Stock new they are great motors but not set up for sustained high rpms so the clearances may be tight. Also I would put a 12-14 qt pan on them. I would also get a cam from Bob Madera to make sure reversion is not an issue. The engines have all good parts.
