Anyone who know's something about this Fountain 42?

The only thing I know about it isn't too helpful... but it's been for sale for a looong time. I remember looking at the listing 3-4 years ago when I bought my 38'. Not saying there's anything wrong with it, just make sure you take a close look. Just odd for something to sit for that long for no reason, because it's not outrageously priced.

Assuming there's nothing wrong with it, it's likely been around that long because of the engine package. The 42 is a heavy boat to be powered with 500's and my guess is that boat with that power will do high 70's which in a 42 might not appeal to a lot of people. Having said that, 500's are good reliable engines. Just get a really good surveyor who also knows performance engines to do compression and leakdown tests.

Always liked the patriotic paint schemes. Not priced bad, agree with the underpower comment. But hey under power is truly a matter of opinion. What's fast to one guy may be slow to another and vice versa.

Hopefully I'll be in the market for a 42 soon. I'm not worried about being "underpowered" with 500 efis. First runnin right around 80 isn't "slow" anywhere except OSO. Second when the time comes to freshen them up and do one of the reliable 650 packages like bob Madera is putting together would make for a nice n/a 42. Should run mid 90s I would guess with 650ish hp a side.

My comment about being underpowered is not just about top speed but also stress on the drives, ie: drive failures at lower hours. It's a heavy boat to get out of the hole. I've been looking at 42's a LOT lately and anyone I've spoken to has told me the same thing. My 38 has 525's on it. A 42 with the same power is 3,000 lbs heavier. That's got to take a bigger toll on those drives.

Well I would personally end up upgrading to prolly xr's with sc lowers.

You're right. I really meant heavy relative to the 38 with the same power..

To tell u the truth that boat with Aerneson bravo conversion and a whipple kit would be the set up.
