I think they only made it for a couple years then the 500EFI came out and pretty much took over

Mercury Racing made a bunch of these starting with the Gen IV in 1991 thru 1997 or 1998 Gen VI version. The 1991 started with serial # OD456000 and with some serial # breaks in between the years, ended with Gen VI version serial # ending OL415623 in 1998 or somewhere close to that. A lot of people think the 525 SC is a 502 CID - it is not its a 454 CID.

Yep mine had almost 500hrs with a top end refresh/cam upgrade at 350hrs. It used a qt of oil maybe every 25hrs.
It did suck the fuel down pretty fast though.
