A Waterway Under Siege
#1
The following is the most recent article regarding an extremely unfortunate incident that resulted in the death of a 10 yr old boy on our waterway last year.
There are several circumstances that all came together to create this incident. I will post some links on this thread so people can form their own opinions. The bottom line is the family is now pushing through a politician relative to try and limit boat sizes, speed limits and create other constraints on our waterway - The Chain O'Lakes in Northern IL.
This incident had limited if nothing to do with speed or boat sizes, yet that's the focus of the lawsuits and laws they are trying to push through. This was a rental boat on a Sunday afternoon by a family on an unfamiliar waterway. Yes the boater that hit the child was drinking and had drugs in his system from the day before. He does have some responsibility and is paying for his part, however the lake these people were on is more of a water highway than a place to tube. I have lived up here for 13 years and NEVER took my kids tubing on that lake. Too congested and busy!
If anyone else has gone through this or has valuable input please post. We really need support, if these limitations are imposed here they can start to happen anywhere.
