Lots of experience and knowledge floating around here. Most of my boating time will be on Lake Erie. My question being.. What is everyones experience and/or opinion about a No Step vs. Twin Step Top Gun?? I have been around boating for quite a while but fairly new to the performance boating world.
Thanks for any input!!

been on both. t/s 750's bravos and straight 750's and speedy 3's..... the t/s is all of 12-15mph faster...ride is very similar in the rough water. i just cant stand the sound and the feel of the slap in the step. and a t/s is out of my price range for now.

I have also looked at both, and the straight bottoms usually have a bigger cabin than the T/S. Also depends on what you need for space etc.

From a flat bottom guy - I'd buy the T/S unless the cabin with enclosed head is important to you. That (plus budget at the time) is why I have a flat bottom and will for the foreseeable future unless my money tree starts germinating....

If I could afford it, I would have a '39 T/S with a full cabin for up north here, no/half cabin for down in Florida. And figure out how to have an enclosed head, or none at all.
T/S, if it's within your budget.

Lake Erie is a tough lake as you are well aware. I've driven a straight bottom 38 and a stepped 42X on Erie in 4+ water. Comments earlier are correct the step bottom does want to run on top where the straight wants to ride in the water.....I like the ride of the straight much better for the close sets of Erie's waves. Please keep in mind that I'm very into the softest ride and a speed that is best for the boat. When I say that what I mean is trim down with tab and less throttle. However if you run it like a race boat and fly it fast in and out of the lake maybe the T/S is better.
I'm always freaked out about breaking stuff and hard hits.

I've never rode in a t/s but I've never heard of anyone going from a t/s back to a straight bottom. Usually the people that say a straight bottom is better own one and can't afford a t/s. my 2 cents

Great point! Once upon a time Cig had the best cabins now the new boats have the worst. What is up with the 6 seats facing each other in the cabin? If you price is a factor find a good clean straight bottom and go with that. Let's face there is no wrong choice here.

I have only been on a straight bottom, friend who had been on both always said the str8 bottom rode better, but slower, all depends on what our looking for but lets face it a st8 bottom cig is always gonna be just as cool!!!
