Default Detroit people.....housing advice please

So im fighting to transfer as close to Cleveland (family) as possible. One work option may be south Detroit. With that said, if you could live anywhere between Toledo and Gross Ile and inland up to 20ish miles.....where would you live. I lived in the D for 5 years but never spent time south of the city so I dont know whats good and whats crap. I lived in Chesterfield/ New Baltimore. Let me know your thoughts.

Detroit is Awesome. Most people in michigan go north on the weekends. I go a little south to my condo on the Detroit river. View of the river, belle isle, Detroit yacht club. Great restaurants close by. Something going on almost every weekend at hart plaza. Plenty of secure marinas. Five minute cab ride to comerica park, Ford field, Joe louis, not to mention Cobo hall. My kids beg to go there every weekend. Downtown detroit is very safe! The neighorhoods-different story.

Thanks all. I love downtown Detroit. Town Pump is my old go to spot before and after games!!! As for living......I want either a canal front house, Nice home in the sticks with a huge barn/garage or maybe even a home on an all-sport lake if the commute isn't bad. Saw some homes reasonably priced on Belleville Lake......seems nice but pictures can lie.....

Thanks for the info and keep it coming. Maybe I can start enjoying the 4 seasons once again!

I have family all over the "downriver" area south of Detroit. Plus other friends and family in all directions. Overall the entire area of SE Michigan has a lot to offer. Grosse IIe is Definitly a beautiful place. If your looking further south to be closer to Cleveland there is lots of land for a nice house in the sticks with a large Pole Barn.

Best part there is AMAZING boating water close by in all directions!

Good Luck!
