Default Mid 90s Bravo 1 Upper Repair or Rebuild

Lots of views but no comments over in the drives section so I thought I'd try here:

We’ve got a 97 upper that the gears let go in and a 95 upper with a cracked case. Would like to have a spare upper and need to know what is feasible.
The cracked case was caused by a log strike and it is assumed that the internals are OK since the boat made it home without issue running 70+mph. Can the case be welded with the drive still assembled?
The alternative may be to transfer the good parts to the case with the broken gears. What would it cost? and who to send it to for the work?
Our marina does not rebuild drives nor do they recommend it…

If the case is cracked save the parts that are good and throw it away. It will never be sturdy or straight to support the shafts
