Default Remembering Our Friend Tom Newby

It's a bit of a tradition for speedonthewater.com to celebrate the life of Tom Newby, a talented photographer and good friend who died six years ago today. This year we thought it would be appropriate to share the story I had the privilege of writing for this year's Lake of the Ozarks Shootout program.

Jason, I cannot believe it has been 6 years, since this tragic accident. Weeks before his accident, he was at our home at LOTO shooting the cover article for Powerboat Magazine, in 2007. The recognition in the 25th LOTO shootout program for Tom was timely and well recieved.
Thanks

If you are a Martini drinker, tonight might be the night to raise one to Tom with a "Newby Special." You have to order it like this:

"I'll have a Grey Goose Martini (pause and look deep into the bartender's eyes to make sure he gets it), extra dry (repeat pause and stare), extra cold (repeat pause and stare) extra olives (repeat pause and stare), up!"

And you when you say "up," you have to stick both thumbs in the air and smile a killer smile.

The guy was an absolute character, and he inhaled life.

I was fortunate enough to meet Tom one day in the Keys...he was a true gentleman and I was deeply saddened when I learned of his death. I'm certain he's got the best seat in the house and he's getting the best shots...just as he did when he was among us!
