I usually see them on higher powered boats. What do they do for performance? Would they do any benefit to a mild power like a 500 or 525 boat? Just curious as I'm not sure what benefits they have.

Not sure about any performance gains but the theory is more or less to get the prop out into cleaner water while getting up on plane with high x dimensions. Lots of the #4s and #5s run boxes because they don't have much negative trim.

Also another reason I believe is to raise the outdrive x-demsion, and weight transfer..more weight hanging further back on the boat. Just like a jackplate on a outboard boat.

For every 10-12" off the back off the running surface you can raise the propshaft approximately 1", until you reach the effective limits of props and the hull. It provides a lot of bow lift leverage, good for some not for others.

Think these will become less common with more new boats with Notched transoms or more people notching their existing transoms?

Dahm, that's 15 foot-i-est, I hope you make it, can I have a ride.

I think you're going to find buying a twin like that is only half the battle, the other half of the battle is going to be keeping fuel in it, that's what hurts.

Yeah no doubt. Luckily I already have twins. Although small blocks used to the twin idea. Also a 42 has been my dream since I was a kid. Looked at 35s but I want a staggered for sure so 42 is best option since I won't be buying 07 or newer. More like 00-02. Lol.

And of course you can go out on it with me. One of these days out schedules will match up to get a beer even!! Lol
