How important is boost retard with only a maximum of 4 lbs boost? Im trying to keep my octane in the 90's for this reason and have no noticeable signs of detonation.

How important are melted pistons and blown head gaskets, what is the timing set at now, what compression ratio, what head material, what cam, is there an intercooler, need a little more info.

I just bought this boat less than a month ago. Don't know a whole lot about the motor. What I can tell you is no inter cooler, cast heads, 34 degrees full advance, roller cam ( lift n duration unknown). Working on getting more info on the engine build but no luck yet.

I'm not an engine builder, just thinking 34 might be best suited for an N/A motor, what's the water temp when it's warmed up and running wide open.

If its less than 8:1 compression with a specific blower cam, and an appropriately sized blower, I'd drop it to 32 and leave it. No need for boost retard. In fact lowering timing too far is more dangerous.

If it hasn't blown up yet, chances are it won't. I might think about dropping the timing back to 32*, but without knowing more about the engine specs, its hard to say for sure.

I'm confused N/A or blower with 4psi

Well it's my understanding they the motor was built specifically for the weiand 177 application but unless I can get the build specs I'm kinda in the dark unless I do a tear down and I don't know that it's worth all that without an eminent issue.
