Default Fuel Fittings

I would like to change all of my fuel lines because most are original. I was thinking of replacing with steel braided line and AN fittings. Is there a specific reason that Merc uses all brass fittings and rubber hose?

Its NOT just profit, for some reason that makes NO sense to me other than no one PAID for it to be done is the braided stuff is NOT USCG rated. I have some AN fittings and hoses that came from the USN that are Teflon lined and rated for 3000 psi on aircraft BUT in the eyes of the USCG because it was never rated it is like using dishwasher hose or vinyl garden hose IF they want to get real technical during a inspection, Smitty

so smitty, what do you use for hose and fittings?
i assume 3\8 inch hose, tell me more!
i am right on the middle deciding this too.
so far i have decided on a 6 port imco switch with returns to tank, aeromotive eliminator pump with 100micron filter on both sides, no paper elements, and a 13114 regulator. Still need to decide on hose, fittings, and y block.
Suggestions?
Thx!
Larry

Regs require metallic or coast guard approved rubber.
