Just wanted to know if anyone has ever done a trip around NYC? Was thinking about dropping my boat north of that tap. and driving it down around NYC. Anything I should know about? Any good places to dock up for lunch or dinner?

It can get a bit rough on the weekends with all the ferry's and sight seeing boats. Places to stop and eat are mostly on the Jersey side, you can pull into Lincoln Harbor (pay to dock) they have restaurants close to the marina. not sure if there are any restaurants at Liberty Landing marina on the Jersey side across from Manhattan. I was told you can get into Chelsea Pier but they are not very accommodating and it will be expensive and I believe you will need to taxi to a restaurant. I'm sure some others will chime in with some info as well.

Liberty landing has a few nice places. Surf City (old Sandbar) is good. You can god self serve or waitress service. It's more of a shorts and t-shirt place. Across the harbor is maritimeparc & Liberty Harbor. A little more upscale. Very busy with the ferries, barges, sight seeing tours, and normal traffic. Throttle through it and you'll be fine. Watch out for debris floating in the water. That can make for a bad end to a god day.

There are also a lot of places you can't get too close too, some marked and some not. Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are marked. Stay away from the ventilation towers on either side of the lincoln and holland tunnel. On the east river my buddies who were out fishing got chased away from somewhere since it was close to the UN and all the activities going on. As mentioned before Surf City has a dock you can tie up to. That is the only free one I know of down here. Everywhere else is a marina that will probably have a dock'n'dine deal or hourly transient rate. Traffic can be rough like people said and the Hudson can get a 8 knot current going. I don't know a ton about the east river other then be careful around Hell Gate. It can get kind of tricky.

I did a trip on the 21st from liberty state park up to Stamford for lunch at the crab shell then across to Oyster bay then North to Huntington beach and hit the bar Prime for a drink then back to Liberty.. Put in the water around 11 and got back around 7 .. Great day except some rain on the way up ..
