What is a fair price to pay for 336 sr1 92 to 94 with 502's on a trailer? i mean fair purchasing price not asking price,i am trying to help a good friend find the right one? Maybe a 303 can work as well but must have 454 mags at least. (I know one just sold in the Oso classifies)
But first option still 336 sr1, based on my research should do around 70 mph with stock 502's.
Any comments greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ps: if you come across one that fits criteria pls let us know.

It's a function of power to weight ratio and the absolutely right prop. Top speeds in these boats can var 3-5 MPH based on fuel, passenger loads plus having the right prop. Top end cylinder leak down due to exhaust valves leaking at the seat is an inherent problem with 454/502 cylinder heads from the '80's & '90's....due largely from the use of 90/10 ethanol fuels over the past ten years.
I was discussing this with a major engine builder recently that indicated that the exhaust valve seat issue is epidemic in big block Chevys and at about 300 hrs of normal use they are ready for a valve job with out special Inconel exhaust Valves and seats.
All of the above can affect power produced and top speeds of some of our favorite boats from that era.
I remember pulling 7-8 more mph cruising in your boat one afternoon playing with the drive trim not touching the throttles.
Formulas aren't known as top end champs in the sport boat world but moreover being able to perform well, comfortably over long distances in marginal conditions.
