effects of factory TBIV timing module on performance

If one modifed their 454 with aluminum heads, 731 Roller Cam, Roller Rockers, IMCO powerflow manifolds, air gap intake, and 800DP HP 500 Carb but kept the factory timing module, would that have adverse effects on engine performance? Is the timing advance not steep enough possibly? Does everyone convert to a different system when modifiying their engine?

okay, i figured so.
But what about the timing curves? it seems the 24's aren't a very good chioce if you have a cam and heads.
Should a 22 be used, or the V6 even? Would those be better choices?

I doubt you would see any major difference between the 2 except at idle.

I have a decent (hopefully) performance 383 with 9.5:1, ported Vortec heads .540'' hyd roller Marine Kinetics cam with an RPM air gap intake. I have the stock '87 TB IV box (I believe). I also have a V8-HPS module with no wiring harness that was given to me. Which of these would be the better choice???
