Default effects of factory TBIV timing module on performance

If one modifed their 454 with aluminum heads, 731 Roller Cam, Roller Rockers, IMCO powerflow manifolds, air gap intake, and 800DP HP 500 Carb but kept the factory timing module, would that have adverse effects on engine performance? Is the timing advance not steep enough possibly? Does everyone convert to a different system when modifiying their engine?

Thanks.

I've always had good success with the stock tbolt 4 ignition with similar mods. Now I run the tbolt4 v6 modules with blower motors and they work great.

okay, i figured so.

But what about the timing curves? it seems the 24's aren't a very good chioce if you have a cam and heads.

Should a 22 be used, or the V6 even? Would those be better choices?

I always ran the 20 degree boxes, ran a new style module with 24 degree, never had issue there either..

The V8-24 is fine as long as you can get the engine to idle well. A V8-HP would be a little better, but they are NLA and hard to find.
I doubt you would see any major difference between the 2 except at idle.

I have a decent (hopefully) performance 383 with 9.5:1, ported Vortec heads .540'' hyd roller Marine Kinetics cam with an RPM air gap intake. I have the stock '87 TB IV box (I believe). I also have a V8-HPS module with no wiring harness that was given to me. Which of these would be the better choice???
Thanks.

Never heard of a V8-HPS and you didn't post any specs on the old one.

With SBC Vortec heads, you only want to run about 28* total timing.
