Seeing that you have hydraulic roller lifters there is zero need for a "break in oil". ZDDP is the key ingredient in break in oils which are marketed towards "flat tappet cams", as modern Passenger car motor oils lack high levels of zinc and phosphorus. Pick the correct viscosity of your favorite oil and that's literally all you need. High ZDDP oil won't hurt, but it also won't accomplish anything in this application.

And a side note, the cases where a "break in" oil are needed, ie flat tappet applications, the failures are usually metallurgy related and not lubricant related. Oil is like religion, everyone has their favorite and they will live and die by it regardless of new information. Some oils are better suited for certain applications, ie high dollar synthetics, but often times they are utilized poorly and never present the dividends for which they were created. There is no magic oil, just some more capable than others.

Also there is plenty of ZDDP in over the counter oil to seat your piston rings and such. You don't need 1,200 ppm for that and roller lifters don't rely on zinc and phosphorus like flat tappets do. With that said, flat tappets can also survive with the new lower zinc content oil. Folks just won't accept that fact.

I alway break in with staight 40 weight. Don't really like 20/50 in a marine application where the water temps are usually in the 150 range. I like Castrol 10/40 in all my marine engines. Don't see much advantage to synthetics if you change your oil every 25-30 hours like I do.
