A friend of mine had a 1979 scarab 300 with a very similar set up. His motors where originally 454 330's that where stock other than being .060 over to 468ci, Edelbrock performer aluminum intakes and cams that where just a bit bigger than 330 cams but I cant remember the specs. The engine builder said they were about 360hp. The boat ran 61-62mph on a good day and handled rough water really well for a 30 footer.

That is actually a Scarab S type, it preceeded the panther name that came out around '84. I had an '86 panther with Mercury Racing 400 cyclones (454 block), with TRS drives with nose cones and raised X dimension. Ran low 70's all day, hit 78 once.

I think the S-type was a limited production offering on the base model which was the Scarab 300. I'm not sure how you would Identify a S-type or what years it was an option but I do know I like the lines on those old 30's

Randy, I think the '77 boat is a Scarab 300 that someone put a S-type windshield on. I'd have to check my brochures when I get home, but I don't think Wellcraft came out with the S-type option till 1980. The 1977 boat would have the taller windshield

The white one has XLS Classic on the back of the side windows, also has 3 port windows and the 2 deck hatches filled in. Kind of strange the ort windows are gelcoated over & looks pretty good on the outside but I don't think I would want to walk across the deck. I need to get them side by side to really see what is what but I think the windshield is taller on the white one also. Randy
