Starting to put together a system for the boat, so far have mtx 7.7's, looking for a decent 5 channel amp to push 4 of the mtx's and a couple 10" subs. any ideas? I do have an old hifonix zues sitting on the shelf but one of the channles has a bit of noise, fixable easily??

JL audio marine only in a boat. You won't be disappointed. Have had mine for 5 years, still sounds like the day I put it in and we push it hard.

JL Audio MHD or HD amps. Marine if in an area that will get wet. Sweet thing about the HD series is they will push their rms rating whether the engine is running and batteries are at 14v or when the boat is off and batteries are down to 12.5 v

I agree with JL or Wetsounds but you should get separate amps for speakers and subs, the combos are always a compromise.

The downside of this is the current rises and rises as the voltage drops, but they are great amps aside from that. Batteries don't stay at 12.5 V for long when you are cranking the tunes.

I have a pair of MHD's pushing 1350 watts total and can run 7-8 hours on 2 standard batteries at max volume.

I would recommend a amp that is efficient. The JL marine amps are designed to not drain the battery. The output goes down with lower battery voltage. As mentioned above the other amps will keep drawing more and more as the voltage drops. Yes you have more power out of the amps but not for long.

I would also look at digital amps. class D amps will be much more efficient then class A/B designs.

I have a Memphis 1100 class D for my subs, (not marine version) kept in cabin. Batteries last alot longer Been great for around 7-8 years pounding 4 subs at 1 ohm. It did start poping the fuses at the end of this season. Im going to send it back to memphis, heard they have a flat rate to repair. Heard the JL are great too.
