I am also redoing my dash panels. My original panels are some type of plastic and keep breaking apart some I'm making the new ones out of aluminum and covering them in this 3M Carbon Fiber look film http://www.carbonfiberfilm.com/

Yes the hydro dipping process is truly impressive. I had all of my dash trim in my ERL turbocharged SS Camaro done by a guy in California. They can do all different colors as well. Hard to tell it's not the real thing. K2 Concepts did all of my dash parts. Guy has been in the business for years and I actually met one of his apprentices here in Arizona. Quite a few hydro guys know him. I'm having my dash done on the Mirage this winter.

wonder if they could or there is a process to get interior (vinyl) done like that and hold up over time.. That would be cool and I would think a lot less expensive.

You are correct, there is a plastic sheet that already comes with the carbon fiber look already on it but I cannot find the supplier anymore. I have seen a dash that used it and had it engraved so that it just broke through the carbon fiber cover then it had lights behind it that shined through.

a plexi type material would not be good for a dash, would crack easily from the screw holes, can make out of PVC material and cover the CF vinyl...
