Default Vinyl/Upholstery question

I was thinking of wrapping my hatches in Vinyl. My worries is how it will hold up. I don't want to make them super padded. Just like maybe 1/2'' foam on top, and 1/4" foam everywhere else? I would want them wrapped tight, so the vinyl doesn't "flap" in the wind. Would having it stiched at all corners be the way to go? I would like to keep the aluminum face plates.

I personally wont be doing the work, but just wanna make sure I know what Im talking about when I bring them in to get covered.

I would get some 1/4-3/8 ich marine plywood or composite and cut it to size of hatch tops. Then install about 8 T Nuts with screws going through them downward that would extend far enough to go through the hatch to put nuts on them from the underside. Drill holes in the hatch to match the T nut/screw locations. Then cover the plywood/composite with pad and vinyl. Snug it down using nyloc nuts.

I would use Sea Dek, comes in lots of colors and is easy to install peel and stick, no holes needed.
