Default Hot Rods? -55 Chevy

Any of you animals into hot rods when the boats are put away? Just picked up this old 55 Chevy 'Gasser. It belonged to a good friend who passed away a year ago. It had been buried in his barn for 17 yrs. Just woke it up tonight for the first rip. Old school 396 M22 4speed, 12 bolt 4:11's

Love any of the "Tri Fives". My first car in High School was a 56 2 door Sedan (post). It originally had a 265 "Power Pack" with three speed manual when I bought it. I snaked a 350 Horse 327 and a M-22 4 Speed from a totaled 65 'vette and dropped it into my 56. With a 4.11 Posi it was wicked!!! ran high 12's with slicks. That motor had solid lifters and with a 750 Holley Double Pumper and Hooker Headers it would wind to 6500 in a blink.

Running thru the gears that 327 at 6500 RPM sounded like a Skill Saw cutting 1/2" plywood!!

All my buds had new SS 396 Chevelles, Goats, 442's, Road Runners and Big Block Camaros. My little 56 never lost to any of 'em.

Thanks everyone. As mentioned above, it had been parked in a barn back in '97 and never touched. A whole bunch of other stuff had to be moved before it could get pulled out. It was so cool, filled up the flat tires and pulled it out with a tow strap. I brought a new battery with me, put it in and hit the key, it turned right over. Cut the fuel line off and hooked up a little 5 gal outboard tank w/primer bulb direct to the Holley dual feed line. Pumped the bulb until the carb was full, hit the accelerator pump arm a couple times and hit the key. It fired immediately!!! Drove it on the trailer and towed it home.

Got the brakes squared away with a new master cyl, one new caliper ('65 Vette discs all around) flushed and bled all 4 corners and got a good pedal. Fresh oil/filter, trans gear lube/rear end. New fuel pump and got a new tank and pick-up/sending unit on the way. So cool to take it for a rip last night!!! Man, it sounds tough with fenderwell headers & glasspacks! Gonna pull the headers tonight to have them blasted and Jet Hot coated silver. Other than that, I'm leaving it as it was. Glad you guys had some interest, Kurt
