This is probably going to open up a huge can of worms, but what is the purpose/advantage of a huge bustle?

ever seen the the wing on a pro stock car? aerodynamics, at 150 mph the air moving over the boat is very important.

im guessing it works like a cowl induction hood, and provides some stern lift.

Great question I bet a lot of members would also love to know.

Also a nice way to extend past the sharp props........nicer looking modern "molded in swim deck"

It's all about air. As mentioned above at high speeds, over 150, you can get a drag on the boat by dirty air behind it.
