Default MSD under new ownership

For those of you that use MSD products, this was a press release from yesterday if you haven't seen it yet.

Hot Rod Brands buys MSD Performance
Publish Date: Dec 16, 2013
EL PASO, Texas - Hot Rod Brands LLC, has acquired aftermarket performance parts maker MSD Performance Group (MSDP), which sells products under the MSD, Racepak, Powerteq, Edge and Superchips brands.

MSDP filed a voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition Sept. 6. The sale, announced today, will see the company reorganized under new ownership.

"Our restructuring allows us to be positioned for substantial growth through an even greater ability to serve our customers with new, innovative product offerings and a higher level of customer service," said MSDP CEO Ron Turcotte.

Hot Rod Brands is an affiliate of Z Capital Partners, a private equity firm with about $1.2 billion of regulatory assets and committed capital with offices in Lake Forest, Ill., and New York, N.Y. The group exercises its operational expertise, working with the management teams of its portfolio companies. MSDP expects to benefit from a stronger balance sheet and focused ownership.

“We will work with the management team to continue to be a market leader and deliver cutting-edge products to our loyal customer base,” said James J. Zenni, president and CEO of Z Capital. “MSDP represents substantial brands within the performance segment and we look forward to further solidifying and growing that brand recognition."

In recent years, MSDP has expanded its portfolio of products and technology to include the award-winning Atomic brand fuel injection systems, Vigilante brand Harley tuning products, Flashcal brand Jeep hand-held programmer, and this year's introduction of Brainwave, the new vehicle management network that allows aftermarket components to use a common technology platform for complete vehicle communication.

I hope the get their products back in line on the quality. In the last couple of years their wires have turned to complete junk. The boots burn through with little temp, but the wire hold fine.

The more I look at it the worse it will possibly get. The money folks are the one's buying it up. I have never seen too many good things come from that combination.
