Fenderjack - here is what I did this past fall.
We were able to purchase a 2000 Cobalt 226 with a 7.4 Bravo III with less than 300 hours. The steg had a little missing paint/corrosion and I wanted to touch up as best as possible -- without spending bunches of money. So I purchased a spray can of zinc primer from Lowes and a can of Black Enamel from Mercury. I sanded the bare spots with 120 grit wiped with a tack cloth and then put about 5 very light coats of the primer on- letting it dry between coats. It was very warm out and it dried within 15 minutes. I then started with very light coats of the paint. I must have put at least 15 coats on - again letting it dry between coats. I can't believe how good it came out. It looks like I really knew what I was doing.
All the best and Merry Christmas

The first thing I did was sand
I went to Lowes and purchased a zinc containing primer
