42...Get a cat and rock the house..
Seriously, My buddy has the 35, quick but too small 38 is the way to go ..lose a little space in the cockpit but have the size for heavier water. remember 38 is going to act like a 3 ft shorter boat.
Just my opinion.

I have several friends with Fountains and have driven most all of them including the following.
29 Fever w/500EFI
35 Lightning w/500EFI
35 Lightning w/575SC
38 Lightning w/575SC
42 Lightning w/ Stag 500 EFI
The 35 twin step is really a sweet boat. For me they are just a little too small in the cuddy. The 38 is the perfect size I think. It all depends on what you want in a boat and how you intend to use it.
My 36 Outlaw is actually larger than the 38 Fountain. My buddy with the 38 can not believe how large our cuddy is. But he is MUCH faster. Currently he is running very close to 90 MPH with 575 sc's and 32 pitch five blade props.
The down side on the staggered motors is that the drives are closer together and you loose some handling around the docks. It is still a very nice set up.
Hope this helps a little.
