Gentleman -
I'm selling my Spectre 30 to a gentleman in Texas. My boat is Coast Guard Documented.
Does anyone know if he needs to get it State titled or could we just transfer the Coast Guard Documentation?
Thanks,
Mike

Look at the back of your CG Documentation and it will explain the options and your requirements.
Also, an option not covered on the back is: if you choose to want to keep your boat name for another (or next) boat YOU can de-document your boat and then sell it, then re-apply for new documentation for the new boat.
As for State registration in TX, I do not know if they require a state registration regardless if the boat is CG Documented or not... sorry.
Just my 2 cents.....

You cannot transfer the CG documentation. You need to provide the buyer with a CG Bill of Sale. That serves as the title transfer. You then need to fill out the back of your CG documentation showing the transfer, have it notarized and then send it in to the National Vessel Documentation Center. Just google NVDC.. the new owner can then re-document the boat in his name or use the CG Bill of sale to register the boat.

The buyer needs to contact a Coast Gaurd Documentation service to do all this for you both.
1. Buyer needs to have a title search done to make sure there are no liens or to make sure the liens are payed.
2. The service will prepare the Bills of Sale for you both to sign.
3. Take 24 hours to get the title search done.
4. When the service has the signed Bill of Sale back and the title search is clear the service will tell you they have everything they need to put clear title in your name/buyer and it's OK to pay for the boat.
Any way else your both at risk. He will have to pay TX sales tax when the boat comes to TX and get the TX sticker.

Matt called me this morning about it. I just went through this on my spectre and I told him what he needs to do. He has to title it and register it. I will get him all the forms you will need to sign when he comes up there to get the boat.
