Default What is a fair price to pay for motor/repower swap??? the labor cost

I am taking out my 454 mpi's and replacing them with 496 ho's. It is a twin engine boat, I wanted to know what you all thought was a fair price to pay for the labor to r&r them? The replacements are used so I am on a budget. I am hoping to get a better idea to plan the rest of the thing that I want this winter. Thanks for any input

Get a price in writing then triple it. You should be in the ball park at that point.

$250-$350 each way per motor is the norm around here.

That's why you pay up front and tell them you want an invoice stamped "paid in full". Then there is no BS.

I would say about a grand to swap two motors depending on how everything goes. I definitely wouldn't pay up front for anything unless it's a good buddy. It's really a easy job if you grab some beer and get some help from friends

The only problem I see with that is they ARE paid in full ...Some places loose there motivation for completion once they have your money.

My opinion is 1000 -1500 for a motor swap .Two completes for two completes .Sounds easy and isn't hard ,but two out ,two in. detailed right it takes a little time There will always be some little something that will slow it some .Even just that one stripped bolthole that you need to helicoil

I agree with you for someone that is handy with motors .However,I think a lot of people are just better off doing what they do to earn the money to pay the shop that is doing what they do. Your time is worth money unless you are unemployed...my opinion

3 to 4 hours each to taking them out and 6 to 8 hours each installing them, plus parts. That will give you a close idea. 18 to 24 hours total labor, plus parts and tax.
