Dear OPA Racing Member,

At the Awards Party on February 8th, OPA will add a new award that will honor one exceptional team member…possibly your team member.

Last year we lost one of our most beloved family members, Jimmy Welsh. You might remember Jimmy better by the name “Trophy *****” from Team Typhoon. If you didn’t know Jimmy, please view this video, you’ll see him at the 18:50 mark, http://www.oparacing.org/2011_sunny_isles_tv.html .

Jimmy was dedicated to our sport, his team and his friends and now we’d like to honor one of your team members that displayed similar qualities throughout this past year. This will be the only award that OPA gives out to a non racing member of our family, so it’s a very special award. Now it’s up to you to tell us who should win it.

As the team owner, if you would like to see this honor bestowed upon one of your team members, it’s up to you to tell us who and why. Please take a few minutes and write a short story about your most dedicated team member and what they did during this past year to deserve this award. Make it good and maybe they’ll win. You’ll find out who wins at the awards party…so bring your crew.

Please submit only one member of your team…someone that your team just couldn’t live without. You may also submit a crew member from another team that helped you throughout the year. Submit your story to [email protected] by February 1st. Be sure to include – your name – team name and hull racing number – Full name (and nickname) of candidate and the position they hold on your team.

This award is only available to registered OPA members that are not the regular driver or throttleman in the boat during the races. Your race team must have participated in at least one OPA race in 2013 to qualify.

When we lost The Trophy Bit$h I received no less than 10 calls asking me to design a trophy in Jimmy's Honor...Well I did and with the help of Mad Dog supplying some of the photos and giving me his blessing and trusting me to do this right, along with Ron P. and Mama Wazzup supplying photos we started, Ron P. came up with the idea of HONORING a crew member in Jimmy's Honor, GREAT CHOICE, now guy's, ladies we are giving you all a way to be more of a part of OPA RACING/THE JERSEY BOYZ. This is a great award in honor of a GREAT Guy, and will most certainly go to a very deserving individual.. Thank you guys for putting this award together!! Liver is already tweakin about the amount of fireball shots getting ready to be handed out in a couple weeks!!

I love this award. Its about time that we recognize the people that work so hard behind the scenes and only get to cheer from the sidelines, often never even seeing the races. It takes a team to win this award. First you need someone that goes above and beyond throughout the year that you want to nominate....then it's up to the team owner to write an enthusiastic explanation as to why this person should be honored over everyone else. So it's time to give back folks. Tell us who has helped to get you into the winners circle....and make it good!

I dont mind voting but I can not speak since I am not a racer but has been around OPA for close to a decade now and have been learning so many, many, many things about offshore boat racing and I am the only one person who is deaf that has been friends with OPA. Be sure to vote wisely. Pss....he is looking around to see who is the person to deserve this special award. Wish I could come Have a blast time!
